Company Profile

Sinneslöschen Systems Corporation is a technology company serving industrial, scientific and OEM markets with electronic components, software and integrated technical systems. The company maintains engineering, manufacturing, service and regional operations in North America, Europe and the Asia/Pacific region.

Sinneslöschen products are frequently incorporated into equipment sold or integrated by other manufacturers. The company therefore emphasizes documented interfaces, long product life, engineering continuity and support for established customer configurations.

History

The company was founded in Glover, Wisconsin in 1957 as Neumann Electronic Instruments by engineer Friedrich Wilhelm Neumann and his friend David Shockley. Early products focused on specialized instrumentation and industrial control equipment where reliability, precision and rugged construction were important requirements.

During the early 1960s, the company expanded into transistorized electronics, logic modules, signal processing and custom electronic systems. In 1965, David Shockley amicably sold his interest as the business prepared for a larger technological and financial expansion, leaving Friedrich Neumann in full control.

In 1969 the company was reorganized as Sinneslöschen Systems Corporation. The change reflected both the increasingly broad scope of the company’s engineering work and Neumann’s preference that a growing technical organization not remain identified solely with the surname of its founder.

A Western Development Office opened in Sunnyvale, California in 1970 and increasingly became the center for digital design, integrated circuits, signal processing, display systems, computing engineering and advanced research. In 1974, Sunnyvale became Corporate Headquarters while Glover continued as a manufacturing, test and production-engineering facility.

Northwest Field Operations opened in Beaverton, Oregon in 1978. European Operations opened in Cork, Ireland in 1981, followed by the Asia/Pacific Operations Center in Singapore in 1988 and expanded systems manufacturing in Carrollton, Texas in 1992.

Founder — Friedrich W. Neumann

Friedrich Wilhelm Neumann was born in Bremen, Germany in 1921. He began technical engineering studies in Bremen in 1939; his education was interrupted by the war and completed in 1947. From 1947 to 1949 he worked on the restoration of industrial controls and electrical instrumentation before emigrating to the United States.

After settling in Glover, Wisconsin in 1949, Neumann worked with industrial electronic equipment and increasingly identified a need for more reliable and precisely engineered control systems. By 1952 he was developing his own specialized designs, emphasizing robust construction, predictable operation and solutions tailored to particular technical applications.

Neumann founded Neumann Electronic Instruments in 1957 and remained the company’s principal technical influence through its expansion into digital electronics and integrated systems. In 1998 he serves as Founder & Chairman Emeritus and is retired from day-to-day management.

The Sinneslöschen Name

The Sinneslöschen name originated in Friedrich Neumann’s early engineering notes, where he used the term informally when describing the removal of unwanted interference from a measured signal. When the company was reorganized in 1969, Neumann selected the name to reflect an engineering approach centered on separating useful information from unnecessary noise.

Research & Development

Research and advanced development activities are centered principally in Sunnyvale, with additional manufacturing validation and systems work performed at other Sinneslöschen facilities. Current programs include semiconductor architecture, display technology, signal processing, system integration, human factors and experimental electronic systems. Results may be transferred to standard products, OEM programs or continued engineering study.
