NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

June 2, 1998 — Graphics Library 4.1 Released

Sinneslöschen has released Graphics Library 4.1, the current programming library for technical visualization applications using supported VDP-6 and VDP-7 display hardware.

Version 4.1 includes revised display-buffer management, improvements to selected clipping and coordinate-transformation functions, and updated hardware-acceleration support for VDP-7 systems.

The release is available for Windows NT 4.0 through the Sinneslöschen Software Download Service. Updated programmer documentation is also available online.

May 19, 1998 — VDP Series Documentation Updated

Revised technical documentation for current Sinneslöschen VDP display processors is now available through Documentation Services.

The update includes a new revision of the VDP-7 Programmer’s Reference Manual, updated application information for high-resolution technical displays and corrections to selected VDP-6 compatibility references.

Customers maintaining established VDP-based systems should verify document revision numbers before replacing locally controlled technical documentation.

May 4, 1998 — Service Bulletin Issued for Early SL-9806 Systems

Sinneslöschen Technical Support has issued Service Bulletin SB-98-006 for selected early-production SL-9806 Modular Control Terminals. The bulletin describes an inspection procedure for display-cable routing and identifies the applicable system serial-number range.

The inspection verifies that the internal display harness has been secured according to current assembly specification. Under certain installation/service conditions, incorrectly routed cabling may contact adjacent chassis hardware.

Affected systems should be reviewed during the next scheduled service interval. Immediate shutdown is not required for systems operating normally.

April 30, 1998 — SL-9816 PCI / SSB Bridge Support Files Available

Driver, configuration and diagnostic files for the new SL-9816 PCI / SSB Peripheral Bridge are now available.

The bridge provides integration between current PCI hosts and established SSB-2/2E equipment. Selected SSB-1 installations may also be supported through approved adapter, termination and timing configurations.

Existing installations should not be modified solely to install new support software unless applicable documentation or Technical Support identifies the update as necessary.

April 7, 1998 — European Technical Support Expanded

Sinneslöschen European Operations has expanded technical-support coverage from Cork, Ireland.

Additional capacity includes product assistance, documentation coordination and service administration for industrial, scientific and OEM customers throughout Europe.

The Cork operation continues regional assembly, configuration, distribution and technical-support services.

March 24, 1998 — Updated SSB Mixed-System Guidelines Published

Sinneslöschen has published TB-98-011, covering supported configurations combining current SSB hardware with selected earlier-generation modules.

Mixed-generation SSB installations remain common where individual modules have been replaced or expanded over an extended service life. Electrical/timing requirements differ between generations.

Customers should review the bulletin before adding legacy modules or migrating established equipment to PCI-based host systems through the SL-9816 bridge.

February 18, 1998 — SL-9821 Development Systems Now Shipping

Initial production shipments have begun to qualified customers and OEM engineering groups. The system provides a complete platform for SL-9821 hardware evaluation and software development.

Standard configurations include processor hardware, host communication interfaces, diagnostics, current development tools and documentation.

Initial shipments are allocated principally to customers beginning new SL-9821 designs and engineering groups evaluating migration from earlier SL processors.

January 12, 1998 — Sinneslöschen Announces SV-98D Dual-Display Workstation

The SV-98D is announced for engineering visualization, simulation and technical-data applications requiring synchronized high-resolution displays.

Standard systems combine Intel Pentium II processing, 256 MB ECC memory, dual VDP-7 display processors and two 21-inch technical CRT displays under Windows NT 4.0.

Optional configurations provide additional storage, external data-acquisition interfaces and SSB connectivity.
